The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cavalier King Charles-Spanish

The name of the Cavalier King Charles-Spanish already betrays its good origins. The Cavelier has a graceful head and a refined build. It is therefore no wonder that this dog was the dog of many noblemen in the past. Nowadays, however, the dog is also kept by the common citizenry as a cosy family dog.

In the Renaissance, keeping social dogs was popular among the European nobility. A lot of time and money went into breeding beautiful companion dogs with a good character. It is said that Charles II spent more time breeding sociable dogs. dogsthan that he was busy governing his country. Therefore, old paintings often depict the so-called Miniature Spaniel. Whereas the large Spaniels were developed for hunting, the small ones were just for fun.

King William III changed the build of the dog in the course of time. He made sure that the dog's snout became flatter. At the end of the 19th century, however, there was an American who regretted that the original Spaniel no longer existed. He offered a reward to breeders who could "restore" the original Miniature Spaniel. They succeeded. This breed was named after the lover of the original dog: King Charles. The animal was therefore called the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a companion dog. Historically, the animal has not really had a task. He was bred to be with people. It is therefore a cheerful animal and especially likes to be with its owner. They fit perfectly in a family. However, you should not leave this dog alone too often. They cannot stand it. The Cavalier descends from the Spaniels. Something of a hunting instinct is still in them. It is therefore possible that the animal occasionally goes tracking or hunting.

These dogs are very sociable, as long as they have people around them, they are actually happy. The dog is also very good with young children and other dogs. Bringing up this dog is therefore not difficult. However, consistent training is important. Be clear and friendly to the dog and he will be easy on you.
